What is the best way to drill a hole through quartz and other stones of a necklace?

I had a couple of pieces of quartz for a few years I always thought it would be perfect for a necklace, but I'm not sure how to go about drilling a hole in it. It's a bit small, well used, or is there a better way to go about it. Thanks for the help!

Using a Dremel tool and a diamond drill. Jewelers use them all the time.
